E2 Environmental Quality

Lecture provides a comprehensive overview of the recent status of Czech environment. First, the physical conditions (geomorphology, bedrock, soils, climatic settings etc.) influencing the environment will be reviewed. Then, we will briefly discuss settlement history and development of agriculture and industry, and show how the Czech environment was affected by human activities in the past. The most important recent environmental threads will be explained emphasizing their reasons and trends. Specifically, we will talk about air pollution (acid rains, tropospheric ozone, aerosols) and water pollution (eutrophication due to high nitrogen and phosphorus loads).
